Meet The Team

Kate Betts

Kate is the director of Capital B Media. She is a former journalist, who now specialises in crisis media management. She is an associate trainer at the Cabinet Office-approved Emergency Planning College and for the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. Her journalistic experience includes working in newspapers, for the BBC and for commercial television. Kate is a BBC-trained video-journalist and has made features for BBC Radio 4. She has also taught print and broadcast journalism at the University of Sheffield.

Mary Ferguson

Mary is a senior account manager with Capital B Media. She has ten years of experience spanning the private, public and third sectors and has worked in various PR, marketing and communications roles across the UK, before settling back in South Yorkshire. Mary has a background in journalism and joined the company after implementing the PR and communications function for a charity in Warrington. She specialises in copywriting and manages some of the key accounts, ensuring stories are told well and get results. 

Charlotte Goldthorpe

Charlotte is an account manager at Capital B Media. She holds a BA Hons degree in journalism from the University of Huddersfield and is also an accredited PR practitioner of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). Charlotte has worked in-house for major plc Marshalls where she assisted in all aspects of PR including media relations, internal communications, crisis communications and social media. Charlotte also has agency experience working for a West Yorkshire-based PR and social media agency.

Luke Marino

Luke is an account executive with Capital B Media. He is responsible for a variety of tasks including monitoring all of our clients' coverage both in print and online, proof reading and distributing press releases and contributing to the company’s social media accounts. In 2015 he successfully gained the National Council for the Trainee of Journalists (NCTJ) qualification after attending News Associates, a journalism school in Manchester. 

Steph Pollard

Steph is an associate of Capital B Media. She writes releases, features and web copy and provides specialist support in PR planning and strategic communications. Steph has experience working as a regional journalist and a public/media relations manager for the Department of Health and local government. She is a champion of effective communication with all stakeholders, to help clients achieve and maintain excellent public relations.

Antony Oxley

Cameraman and photographer Antony is an associate at Capital B Media. He has worked for Yorkshire Television and Sky News, covering major stories ranging from floods and fires to political storms and personal tragedies. His assignments included the Soham murders, the Selby train crash and the Harold Shipman case. He also covers football matches for Sky Sports and BBC Sport. As well as helping with media training, he works as a stills photographer for Capital B Media.

Mary Murtagh

Mary is an associate at Capital B Media, assisting and running media training and PR for SME courses. She is an award-winning print and video journalist who spent 12 years working for some of the biggest regional papers in the UK. She has trained everyone from housing officers and executives of blue-chip companies to senior council officers and firefighters.

Deborah Wain

Deborah is an associate writer at Capital B Media, specialising in health stories and web copy. She is an experienced and award-winning journalist and script writer. She writes for stage and television, including as a scriptwriter for Hollyoaks, and has had several plays broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Deborah is a past winner of the Paul Foot Award for investigative journalism run by Private Eye and the Guardian

Ben Rooth

Ben is an associate media trainer at Capital B Media. He is an award-winning journalist, who has worked across TV, print and radio, including at the BBC. He has interviewed everyone from prime ministers and CEOs to David Attenborough and Alan Whicker. As a media trainer he has trained chief executives of major international companies and senior Whitehall policymakers.
