Highest ever seeding secured by Barnsley rally ace
8 September 2015
A Barnsley rally driver is celebrating his highest ever seeding at a motorsport event. David White has been seeded third at the Vale of York Stages Rally being held at Melbourne this weekend (Sunday September 13th).
David, who drives a Prodrive Subaru Impreza with his son, Mathew, as co-driver, has gained third place ranking based on his performance at amateur rally events across the UK this season.
The number one and two seeds are last year’s winner at the Vale of York rally and another regular competitor at this event. This is the first time David has entered.
David said: “We were really pleased to find out we were seeded third – that’s out highest ever ranking and its all the more important to us as we know it’s based on other people’s assessment of our performance across a range of events this year. I’ve been a spectator at the Vale of York before but we’ve never competed and we’re looking forward to it. It’s rare for us to compete so close to home at a Yorkshire rally, so we hope we’ll have lots of people come and watch - see what the sport is all about.”
David is backed by South Yorkshire-based sponsors DAF, F&G Commercials, Mirage Electronic Cigarettes, Sheffield Rolling Road, Quidbake, Signs Xtra and KHA Business Solutions.
David is top of the leader board, in group N cars class, in the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship 2015 after competing in rallies in Wales, Ireland and Northumberland and the Manx National Rally in May on the Isle of Mann.
He is also high on the leader board in the North of England Tarmacadam Championship after finishing first in class at the Jack Frost Stages Rally in Darlington and 11th at the North West Stages Rally in Blackpool earlier this year.
David even entered his first European event in 2015. He finished 9th overall in the Monteberg Rallysprint, in Belgium, with the highlight being fourth fastest on one of the stages ahead of seven-time Belgium Champion Patrick Snijers in his Porsche 997 GT3.
The Vale of York Stages Rally is held at Melbourne’s former RAF airfield. Visit www.valeofyorkstagesrally.co.uk for information.
David, aged 50, returned to competitive driving last year following a 30 year break.
He lives and runs his family business White’s Bakery in Worsborough Bridge, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
