Lone worker experts sponsor Suzy Lamplugh Trust awards
27 February 2017
Lone worker experts Peoplesafe are sponsoring the National Personal Safety Awards run by Suzy Lamplugh Trust in London in March.
The awards have nine award categories, including the Inspiring Individual Award, the Young Person’s Safety Award, the Safer Workplace Award and the Taking Stalking Seriously Award.
It is the second year Peoplesafe, which is one of the UK’s leading providers of lone worker safety solutions, has sponsored the awards.
Ian Johannessen, Peoplesafe’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to be working with Suzy Lamplugh Trust again and are looking forward to the awards. We are seeking to recognise those people for whom personal safety is a passion beyond words and job function.
“In 2016 it was brilliant to see the breadth of people, places and situations where personal safety activities are making a real difference to the attitudes and lives of so many. I encourage anyone who has a sense of commitment to personal safety to get involved.”
As well as sponsoring the overall awards, Peoplesafe will sponsor the Personal Safety Champion category, which will be awarded to the individual who most facilitated the improvement of safety for employees in the workplace, especially for those who work alone.
Peoplesafe, which has its headquarters in South Yorkshire, has worked with Suzy Lamplugh Trust for many years, running training courses across the UK for people who either work alone or manage people who work alone.
It’s estimated that there are 6.8 million lone workers in the UK, from lorry drivers, shop workers and farmers to social workers, health visitors and security staff.
Suzy Lamplugh Trust works to reduce the risk of violence and aggression through campaigning, education and support.
The charity was set up by Paul and Diana Lamplugh in memory of their daughter Suzy, a 25 year old estate agent, who disappeared in 1986 after she went to meet an unknown client in London. Her body was never found.
Rachel Griffin, director of Suzy Lamplugh Trust, said: “The awards are a fantastic way to highlight good practice across all sectors and to recognise the hard work of various individuals and agencies that promote and ensure personal safety. We have always been inspired by the breadth and depth of the different projects nominated for awards, all of which are making communities and workplaces safer places.”
Peoplesafe is one of the UK’s leading providers of simple and lightweight equipment, monitoring services and safety training for lone workers. It provides an NSI Gold accredited service, which is the highest possible industry recognition. The service is fully compliant with the British Standard for lone worker provision (BS8484). Peoplesafe’s clients include a range of major retailers, housing associations, facilities management companies, charities and house builders.
The National Personal Safety Awards will be held at the Church House Conference Centre in London on March 23rd. Winners will need to display how they have best helped people stay safe in their respective category.
They will be judged against the following criteria: involvement and engaging others; focusing on risk assessment; embedding personal safety into organisational culture; taking a positive, proactive and preventative approach; being creative, and showing commitment and drive.
Winners last year included Bovis Homes, Manchester Mind, Voice 4 Victims and the Andrew Page Group.
