New directory to help boost Sheffield creative industries

11 June 2013

A new online directory has been launched to help support the growth of creative and digital industries in the Sheffield City Region, which are worth more than £1 billion a year to the local economy.

Commissioned by Creative Sheffield, the CDIDirectory.com will help businesses connect with each other and showcase their services to potential new clients.

The CDI sector, which ranges from advertising and computer game development to performing arts and video production, employs more than 20,000 people in the city region, has a total turnover of more than £2 billion and a gross value added (GVA) of £1.07 billion.

James Wilson, creative and digital sector growth manager for Creative Sheffield, said: “Sheffield is one of the leading cities for the sector in the UK. We have some amazing companies based here, including some with a global reach.

“By putting people in the region in touch with each other so they can work in partnership, and by showcasing them on the directory, we can help the sector grow and create even more jobs.”

The Sheffield City Region is made up of the nine local authority areas of Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Doncaster, North East Derbyshire, Rotherham and Sheffield.

The site at www.thecdidirectory.com has been designed by Llama Digital of Sheffield Technology Park and funded through the South Yorkshire Sector Growth Enhancement Programme (SYSGEP), which is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Yorkshire and The Humber ERDF Programme 2007-13.

Already dozens of companies have signed up to the directory, which also has a section where any firm can ask for help. For example an engineering firm looking for a photographer or web designer could post on the website and those registered can respond.

Chris Muscroft, commercial director at Highlander, an IT and Telecoms services provider based in Sheffield, said: “We registered with the site because we think it is a great way to link up with other organisations and create a collaborative environment for the digital sector.

“It also provides a gateway for businesses across the region to access great technology advice whilst raising awareness of how strong the creative and digital sector is in this region.”

Any CDI sector firms in the Sheffield City Region can register for free by going to www.theCDIDirectory.com. Companies looking for creative and digital services can also use the site for free.
