19 June 2014
An author has been recruited by South Yorkshire-based creative curriculum specialists, Cornerstones Education Ltd.
Iain Broome, author of A is for Angelica, has joined the company as curriculum editor.
His first task is to help prepare Cornerstones’ new teaching and learning materials which will be published this summer, ready for use in hundreds of primary schools from September.
Iain said: “The Cornerstones curriculum is a package of 70 projects covering subjects, like science, literacy, maths and ICT, and focusing on themes like Frozen Planet, Gallery Rebels and Potions. It’s great to be working on such a huge and diverse writing and editing assignment.”
Former Sheffield Hallam University student and researcher, Iain previously worked as a copywriter at a leading Sheffield design agency.
His critically-acclaimed debut novel, A is for Angelica, was published by Legend Press in 2012. Iain continues to write as a freelancer alongside his Cornerstones work and co-runs a podcast for creative writers called ‘Write for Your Life’.
Cornerstones Managing director Simon Hickton said: “Iain strengthens our curriculum writing team at Cornerstones and it is great to have him on board at this key time as we rewrite all our resources to ensure they are clear, concise, engaging; and provide comprehensive coverage of the new National Curriculum which schools must comply with from September.”
Iain joins an expanding workforce of 30 at Cornerstones which was established in 2010. The company has a growing customer-base of 900-plus schools across England and Wales.
Simon said: “We are expanding rapidly as more schools buy into the Cornerstones’ creative learning philosophy and so we are delighted to be able to recruit high-quality talent like Iain to join our committed Cornerstones team.”
Cornerstones Education Ltd is based at Fields End Business Park in Goldthorpe, Barnsley.
Last year, the firm doubled its office space by taking on a further 1,300 square feet and developing training facilities and meeting rooms available for hire.
