Unbelieva’bubble’ fun at Magna this half term
29 January 2016
Bubbles will be in the air this half-term as Magna hosts a series of workshops for all the family.
The bubble workshop will be one of a number of events at the visitor attraction from February 6 to 21. There will also be forge demonstrations with a blacksmith at work.
Visitors can also explore Magna’s Steelos Gallery, a brand new exhibition which charts the history of the Templeborough site from Roman times to the present day, and they can find out more about the old steelworks with one of Magna’s regular expert steel tour guides.
Stuart Ballard, education director at Magna, said: “Magna is a brilliant place for all the family to come and enjoy themselves over half term.
“We’ve always got plenty going on and the kids can really go wild with the range of fun-based activities we offer. But as well as having fun, they’re also learning and becoming interested in the world of science.
“Everyone can get involved in our bubbles workshop and I’m sure the parents will be pleased that the kids can have a lot of fun without creating a mess at home!”
Magna is housed in the former Templeborough steelworks. At one time the steelworks, which were a mile long, were said to be Europe’s largest. There were 14 open-hearth furnaces and 14 chimneys, which were replaced in the 1960s with electric arc furnaces. One of the arc furnaces is now a giant pyrotechnic display in the visitor centre called the Big Melt.
As well as the Big Melt there are more than 100 hands-on exhibits designed to explore the four elements of air, water, earth, and fire. Magna also hosts regular school visits and business and social events.
Admission charges for Magna apply. For more information and full event-listings go to www.visitmagna.co.uk or call 01709 720 002.
