Yorkshire Cosplay Con returns to Magna
24 July 2015
A family friendly comic convention will return to Magna for a second time this year.
The Yorkshire Cosplay Con returns on 8th August after a previous sell-out event in April.
Cosplaying is the art of dressing up as a fictional character from a certain genre, and is most commonly associated with fans of comic books, anime and video games.
Special guests to Yorkshire Cosplay Con are set to include stars of popular franchises Harry Potter, Star Wars and James Bond.
Kitty Furniss, Cosplay Con event organiser, said: “It’s great to be back at Magna. The first convention held here was great and we’re looking to build on that and make Cosplay Con better than ever before.
“We were overwhelmed with the number of people that turned up last time, and the costumes were amazing, so we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone turn out in force again.”
Dan Tupling, marketing manager at Magna, said: “It’s great to get Cosplay Con returning to Magna so quickly. The conventions always have a great atmosphere and it’s testament to Magna that we can cater for such a high profile event.
“Magna is a great venue that can host a variety of different events from business conferences to Christmas parties. The cosplay convention has become another arm to our event hosting.”
The Cosplay Con event, which costs £9 per adults and £6.50 for children, will run from 12 noon to 6pm on Saturday 8th August. Tickets are available for the cheaper price of £7 for adults and £5 for children, if bought in advance online. Parties of four can also purchase a group ticket for £21.
There will also be various stalls at the convention including; Sore Thumb Retro Games selling retro video games; Canime, creator of anime canvas prints; Lucky Target Comics selling comics, graphic novels and comic t-shirts; Drix Productions, creator of unique handmade jewellery and art; and Time Was, specialists in toys and collectables from the world of TV and film; plus many more.
Magna, which is housed in the former Templeborough steel works, has venue space that can cater for between five and 5,000 people. In the last year it has hosted everything from dance events to business conferences.
As well as being a corporate venue, Magna is also an award-winning visitor attraction with more than 100 hands-on exhibits designed to explore the four elements of air, water, earth and fire, and it hosts regular school-trips.
