Young Magna employee recognised in national competition

10 October 2016

A young Magna employee has won recognition in a national competition designed to showcase the benefits of apprenticeships in the workplace.

Molly May Charlesworth, 18, completed her apprenticeship at the Rotherham-based visitor attraction in August, and is now employed there as sales coordinator.

She scooped ‘Highly Commended’ in the Advanced Apprentice - Yorkshire and Humber category of the National Apprenticeship Awards 2016, which took place in York last week.

Molly May saw off stiff competition during the first round of the contest earlier this year to move through to the regional finals, where she picked up the award.

She said: “It’s a real honour to be recognised in this competition and I’m really grateful to the team at Magna for supporting me. I think it’s so important to highlight how important apprenticeships are to both businesses and young people.”

Molly May, who lives in Barnsley, is looking ahead to the Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards, where she has been shortlisted as Apprentice of the Year. The ceremony takes place at Magna this Friday, 14th October.

Magna, which is housed in the former Templeborough steelworks near junction 34 of the M1, is an award-winning visitor attraction and hosts regular school visits. The venue hosts corporate events for brands including Mercedes, Royal Mail, Kia Motors and HSBC, and organises its own events too.
