Barnsley in print with business event
15 February 2011
Barcodes that can speak to your smartphone, magazine covers that release a fragrance, glow-in-the-dark ink…..
These are all topics that will be covered at an event at the Digital Media Centre in Barnsley for people involved in the printing industry.
The Printers’ Forum networking event on February 22 will also hear from industry experts about invisible watermarking, printable electronics and heat sensitive ink.
Robert McClements is the chief executive of Print Yorkshire, which aims to promote the printing industry, and one of the speakers.
He said: “Print has been the primary means of communication for half a millennium, but it needs to develop to keep pace with all the changes going on with other forms of communication.
“There are some really exciting developments happening now. We are developing print that you can not only see, but also touch, taste, smell and hear.”
The event is supported by Enterprising Barnsley as part of its commitment to encourage business growth in the town.
Enterprising Barnsley has attracted £2.89m investment from the European Regional Development Fund as part of Europe’s support for the region’s economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme. Enterprising Barnsley also offers business coaching and provides office space throughout the borough.
Martin Beasley, manager at Enterprising Barnsley, said: “It’s vital that businesses in Barnsley keep up with the latest changes in technology. That’s why we are happy to support events like this.”
The event at the Digital Media Centre, at County Way, runs from 4pm to 6pm on Tuesday, February 22. To book go to: http://bit.ly/printyorkshire
