Amateur driver David White, of Barnsley has won his class for group N cars in the Reis MSA Asphalt Rally Championship 2015 - and come sixth overall against all competitors across the UK.

David was also the only Yorkshireman to finish in the top 20 of this hard-fought motorsport championship. And his class N win means he has defended the title he secured for the first time in 2014.

David, aged 50, drives a Prodrive two-litre Subaru Impreza with his son, co-driver and navigator, Mathew, aged 21.

David said: “We are absolutely thrilled to defend our title and finish higher up the rankings to notch up a 6th place finish over all. That was our aim this season and we’ve achieved it.

“It’s been a fantastic championship with plenty of action and we’ve gained in confidence as we’ve gone along, securing maximum championship points at events and some great results at rallies outside the championship too.

“It feels like we are improving all the time – pushing the car to new limits and getting the pace notes spot on. Roll on 2016.”
David will receive his Group N champion’s trophy at the Motorsport Association’s Asphalt Rally Championship awards dinner in Birmingham in November.

The national championship is run on tarmac, or asphalt, and this year incorporated five competitive events.

The father and son team won their class in the opening round at the Tour of Epynt rally, in Llandovery, Wales in March and then again at the Manx National Rally on the Isle of Mann in May. Further class wins followed at the ALMC Stages rally in County Meath, Ireland in July and the Tynside Stages Rally in August; just being pipped to second place at the final Mewla Rally in Wales the same month.

David competed in the national competition for the first time last year after returning to competitive driving following a 30 year break. He finished 16th overall in 2014.

David’s amateur rally team, Two 4 Motorsport, is sponsored by South Yorkshire businesses DAF, F&G Commercials, Mirage Electronic Cigarettes, Sheffield Rolling Road, Quidbake, Signs Xtra and KHA Business Solutions. Event servicing is provided by Alex Taylor of Northern Body Shell Prep of Thirsk.

His ambition is to move up to the UK’s premier rallying competition, the British Rally Championship, which is being re-launched in 2016. He hopes to invest in a higher spec rally car to take his competing to this level. The British Rally Championship has a massive following and many world class rally drivers such as Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist and Colin McRae have competed in it.

David lives and runs his family business White’s Bakery in Worsborough Bridge, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
