IT company team skydive for local charity

11 May 2015

Two young team members from a Barnsley IT company are swapping hard drives for sky dives when they take on a parachute jump to raise money for a local charity.

Will Hutchinson, 20, and Richard Ryder, 23, of Goldthorpe-based IT company IT Desk will be jumping out of a plane 15,000 feet above North Lincolnshire on Sunday 14th June.

They hope to raise £1,000 for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, which funds pioneering cancer research.

Will, who lives near Scunthorpe and works as a junior IT technical apprentice said: “I’ve never done anything like this before. I’m not afraid of heights so I’m really excited and up for the challenge.”

Richard, from Swinton, who suggested the sky dive, is not quite as confident: “I’m pretty scared of heights and this is the highest tandem skydive experience in the UK apparently.

“We will accelerate from 0 to 120mph in just ten seconds so I’m feeling slightly apprehensive.”

The two IT workers are using Facebook and JustGiving to promote their charity stunt and encourage colleagues, friends and family to donate.

Their boss, IT Desk managing director Chris Wright said: “I’m really proud that they want to do this, and raise money for a charity which everyone in our team is keen to support.”

In addition to cancer research, the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity helps to improve cancer treatments and care for patients from Sheffield, all of South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire.

To support Will and Richard go to or to send a donation text ITDJ99 followed by £1, £2, £5 or £10 to 70070.
