Sheffield financial planner joins college governors
11 December 2017
Jillian Thomas, managing director of Future Life Wealth Management, has become a governor of Chesterfield College.
The governing body, known as the Corporation, helps the college set and deliver strategic priorities, and scrutinises performance. The 13 members come from a variety of backgrounds, with links to business, education and the community.
Jillian, who will be a member of the finance and general purposes committee, said: “Outside the office I believe in playing a part in civic life. It is possible to be successful in business, but also to give back to society, which is why I was delighted to take on this role.”
“To run my business I need a lot of financial knowledge and need to be across any changes in rules and regulations surrounding the world of finance. To be able to use that knowledge to help the college is a great feeling.”
Chesterfield College is based in the centre of the town, has over 10,000 students and apprentices, and offers courses in a wide variety of subjects ranging from construction, engineering and logistics to hospitality, digital media and sport. It offers qualifications from entry level and level one right up to degrees and higher level apprenticeships.
College principal and chief executive, Julie Richards, said: “The knowledge and experience of our Corporation members are really valuable and allow us to develop to meet the needs of the communities we serve. We welcome Jillian on board and look forward to working with her.”
Jillian set up Future Life Wealth Management in 2010. The company, based in Renishaw, offers a bespoke financial planning service to generators of wealth, typically business owners, executives and professionals, and also to receivers of wealth, such as inheritors, divorcees, widows and retirees.
It has won numerous awards and has been listed in the New Model Adviser Top 100, which recognises firms for their qualifications, income and commitment, every year since 2013.
Jillian is a past president of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, only the second woman to have held the post in the chamber’s 160 year history. She is also a regular expert guest on BBC 5Live and BBC Radio Sheffield.
