Capital B Media celebrate 10 years in businessA South Yorkshire media training and PR consultancy is celebrating ten years in business.

Capital B Media, which specialises in public relations, media training, crisis communications and social media, was set up by former BBC journalist Kate Betts.

Since it was formed a decade ago the company has gone from strength to strength and has already appointed two members of staff since the turn of the year, taking their total number of employees and associates up to 11.

Kate said: “I’ve always had an ambition to set up my own company and I feel really proud when I think of how far Capital B Media has come in just a short space of time.

“The fact that we've already taken on two members of staff this year shows that we are a growing company and one that is achieving great things.”

Kate set up the agency in 2006, offering media training after leaving her job as a broadcast journalist with the BBC. Due to the growing reputation of the company, Kate soon started providing services in public relations, and, in 2012, moved into offices at Millhouse Green, near Penistone.

Capital B Media, which also provide services in multi-media including audio, video and photography, continued to expand and following the appointment of more staff moved into larger neighbouring premises last March. Turnover this year is on track to be 30 per cent up on last year.

“The whole journey has been incredible,” said Kate. “To now be working out here in the countryside in a great office is brilliant.

“We’ve established a really hard-working and talented team and in the last month alone we’ve secured two big PR contracts, so the signs are there that we’ll have another successful year.”

Several of the original clients are still with the company, including a fire service and a NHS trust.

Rob Steel, head of communications at the Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Kate first started media training our senior staff when we were effectively part of the primary care trust back in 2006. And every time we have used Capital B Media since I have been delighted by the quality of service.

“They have provided well planned and well delivered training to dozens of our staff over the years. And we’d like to wish them a happy tenth birthday!”

Other media training clients include the Care Quality Commission, the Pensions Regulator, South Yorkshire Fire Service, Peak District National Park Authority Churchill China, University of Wolverhampton and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Capital B Media has also built up a portfolio of PR clients from the public, private and third sector. They include Provide Education, Peoplesafe, Magna Science Adventure, Enterprising Barnsley, Sheffield City Region Growth Hub and Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK.
