Countdown to Magna’s German-style Oktoberfest
19 September 2016
The countdown is on to Magna’s third annual Oktoberfest in Rotherham.
The German-themed event takes place on Saturday 1st October and partygoers are preparing to eat, drink and dance from midday to midnight.
Oktoberfest, which is thought to be the biggest of its kind in the region, features continental draught and bottled lagers, fancy dress and entertainment from Oompah bands.
Revellers can enjoy an authentic taste of Bavaria by drinking from pint-sized steins – traditional German beer mugs – and lining their stomachs with frankfurters, pretzels and currywurst, all served up by wenches.
Oktoberfest guests are encouraged to get in the spirit by dressing in Bavarian costume, and Oompah entertainment will be provided by Hofbrau Howlerz and the Bootleggers. Local bands and a DJ will also provide a soundtrack to the party.
Over the last two years, almost 4,000 people have attended Oktoberfest.
Magna’s sales accounts manager Becky Gill said: “This event brings long-standing German tradition to the doorstep of South Yorkshire and we can’t wait to see everyone get into the Bavarian spirit in Rotherham. There’s always a unique atmosphere at Oktoberfest, which makes for a brilliant and memorable occasion.”
The new X1 Steel Link bus route has been extended into the evening to get people back to Rotherham, Meadowhall and Sheffield Interchanges. And for those who choose not to drink, plenty of car parking is available.
Pre-purchased tickets are £5, with beer and food tokens available to buy on the night. Bierkeller packages start from £15 and include an entry ticket, two drink tokens, one meal token, your own one-pint Stein and a traditional Oktoberfest hat.
