Derby Theatre to host stress management short course for arts professionals

Derby Theatre is to host a free time, priority and stress management masterclass.
The short course, designed for arts professionals to develop their business acumen, is being run by Derby Theatre Big House – a business support programme which provides a wide range of targeted business support for performing arts professionals and companies in the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership area, which covers all of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
The session on Friday February 9 will be hosted by Richard Watts, director and consultant at People Make it Work - a company which specialises in helping organisations change and develop. It will take place from 10.30am-5pm in the Alan Bates Room at Derby Theatre.
It will cover strategies to reduce stress and its negative impact on wellbeing, tools to identify priorities, understanding delegation and managing workloads, barriers to time management and how to develop an action plan.
Sarah Brigham, artistic director and chief executive at Derby Theatre, said: “Implementing techniques for managing time and stress are often overlooked due to busy schedules, but they are vital components of running a successful business and driving a positive culture in the workplace.
“A number of artists have said they would benefit from this type of session to develop their business skills and help them work better. We hope by attending this session, their businesses continue to grow and flourish.”
Richard Watts, director and consultant at People Make it Work, said: “I was delighted to be asked by Derby Theatre to deliver this masterclass as part of their Big House programme.
“During the session I’ll cover barriers to managing time effectively, including how to overcome procrastination. I’ll also look at how to manage the expectations of others and encourage attendees to create ways of providing positive feedback, while noticing the progress and impact of their work.”
Derby Theatre Big House is part of The Big House which is part-funded by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).
Those eligible to attend are small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with less than 250 employees or entrepreneurs eager to set up, in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. They also need to be registered with HMRC or Companies House and trading or ready to trade.
