Harris + Co pledges to raise £5k for Barnsley Hospice

6 March 2020

Harris + Co accountants has announced Barnsley Hospice as its charity of the year for 2020.

The chartered accountancy and tax advisory practice based on Huddersfield Road in Barnsley has pledged to raise £5,000 this year through a range of company-wide fundraising initiatives.

Barnsley Hospice provides compassionate, high-quality care for anyone in the borough with a progressive, life-limiting illness including cancer, motor neurone disease and heart disease.

The hospice needs to raise over £2m each year to fund patient care and support for families. A further £1.6m is provided by the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

Harris + Co’s corporate social responsibility partner, Nichola Hawden, said: “Barnsley Hospice is such an important part of our local community and one that is close to many people’s hearts. We all know someone who has been supported by them.

“At Harris + Co we care about our people, our clients and our community, and so are delighted to be supporting Barnsley Hospice throughout 2020 as our chosen Charity of the Year.”

Harris + Co plans to raise the money through bun sales and an ice bucket challenge, as well as supporting the many hospice events throughout the year.

Simon Atkinson, corporate fundraiser at Barnsley Hospice, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Harris + Co to the Barnsley Hospice family. Their support will help us continue to deliver high-quality care and support to those who need it in the borough.

“As we head into the new financial year, we know that many businesses will be setting new goals and objectives to help make a difference in the community. That’s why we’d love to hear from businesses both large and small that would like to support us by making us their charity of the year, or by fundraising for us in other ways.”

There are many ways businesses can support Barnsley Hospice including providing sponsorship for events and publications; making them charity of the year; taking part in popular hospice events including Bubble Rush; organising events such as bake sales; team building exercises; setting up payroll giving schemes for employees, and donating gifts in kind.
