HR consultants host workshops for business owners in West Yorkshire
24 October 2018
Huddersfield-based HR consultants Pennine Business Partners will host a series of free workshops to help business owners understand human resources.
Lynn Bradley, director at Pennine Business Partners, is running three sessions at the company’s headquarters at Lockwood House in Huddersfield.
The first workshop, ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing for your Workforce and Yourself’, takes place on Thursday 8 November and will focus on the practical steps that business owners can take to improve their own mental health and wellbeing, as well as that of their workforce. It will cover the five ways to wellbeing and how they can be actioned, supporting staff with mental health issues, and developing a wellness action plan.
Lynn and her team will also run two workshops to help business leaders deal with difficult situations. ‘Sick of Absence?’ on Thursday 22 November will provide practical insights to help business owners manage absence and improve business performance. Another on Tuesday 4 December, ‘Being Fair with Dismissals’, will provide insights and practical guidance on the processes relating to disciplining and dismissing employees.
The free HR workshops will occur twice a day, at 8am and 4pm, to give busy business owners the chance to schedule their attendance towards the start or end of their day.
Lynn said: “We understand that HR can often slip down the list of priorities for many business owners who are also taking care of sales, marketing, finances and many other things.
“HR can present a raft of challenges for business owners which is why understanding best practice is crucial to a company’s success. Our free workshops aim to provide practical advice in a comfortable and confidential setting.”
Pennine Business Partners provides practical HR support delivered by qualified professionals with real life management experience, to businesses and organisations across Yorkshire and the north of England.

Workshop: Mental Health and Wellbeing for your Workforce and Yourself
Date: Thursday 8 November
Times: 8am-9.30am and 4.00pm-5.30pm
Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. In England, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (such as anxiety and depression) in any given week. The issue of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace has never been more prominent.
Join Pennine Business Partners for an informative and interactive seminar that will focus on the practical steps that business owners can take to improve their own mental health and wellbeing, as well as that of their workforce. The seminar will cover the five ways to wellbeing and how they can be actioned, supporting staff with mental health issues, and developing a wellness action plan.
Due to the sensitive and highly personal nature of this subject, we will insist on the highest level of confidentiality from delegates.
Workshop: Sick of Absence?
Date: Thursday 22 November
Times: 8am-9.30am and 4.00pm-5.30pm
A practical and interactive session that will help you manage absence and improve business performance. Whether it's short or long-term absence we will explore your legal obligations and outline practical steps that you can take to manage absence in your business. We will guide you through best practice from receiving an initial absence notification, fit notes and GP disclosure, to managing the return to work for the benefit of your business.
Workshop: Being fair with dismissals
Date: Tuesday 4 December
Times: 8am-9.30am and 4.00pm-5.30pm
It is rare that a manager with responsibility for staff will not at some stage have to deal with an employee’s misconduct or poor performance. Business owners need to be aware of the pitfalls and ensure the appropriate processes are followed before disciplining / dismissing employees, whether on the grounds of poor performance or misconduct, in order to avoid tribunal claims. This interactive and practical session will highlight the pitfalls, provide guidance on best practices and highlight cases that have shaped employment law in this area.
