Sheffield financial planner to host event with former pensions minister, basketball coach and a police dog
12 February 2018
Sheffield financial planner Jillian Thomas is hosting a business lunch with a former pensions minister, the coach of Sheffield Sharks and hero police dog Finn.
Jillian, managing director of Future Life Wealth Management, is bringing the unlikely trio together for the event in Sheffield in May.
German Shephard Finn, who will be accompanied by his handler Dave Wardell, is the face of a campaign to change the law over attacks on service animals.
Finn sustained serious stab wounds to the chest and head whilst protecting Dave from a robbery suspect who pulled a knife on the pair in October 2016.
The perpetrator was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH) for the attack on Dave, but only criminal damage for the attack on the dog, even though Finn nearly died.
The pair, who are based in Hertfordshire, are now running the campaign Finn's Law calling for the introduction of a new law to protect all service animals. Dave will talk about the campaign so far and will be available to sign copies of his new book.
Steve Webb, who was pensions minister in the coalition government, now works for Royal London. He will look at proposed changes to pensions legislation and what to expect pension-wise in a post-Brexit Britain. And Atiba Lyons will talk about building a team, whether in sport or business.
The free event, which is being hosted by Jillian, will take place at the Inox restaurant at the University of Sheffield on May 9 and is designed to inspire and inform.
Jillian said: “The three humans are very engaging speakers. Steve has an outstanding ability to simplify and provide perspective on the complex and ever-changing pensions framework for individuals and companies.
“Atiba manages to mix sport and business in a way that is fascinating, and Dave speaks passionately about an issue he really believes in and one that I think we should all get behind.
“Add to that the chance to meet a real-life hero police dog and I think it will be an inspiring event.”
Future Life Wealth Management is based in Renishaw and was set up by Jill in 2010. The company offers a bespoke financial planning service to generators and receivers of wealth, including business owners and executives, inheritors and retirees.
For the last five years running Future Life has been listed in the New Model Adviser Top 100, which recognises financial planners for their qualifications, income and commitment. Jillian is also a past president of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce.
