South Yorkshire business community urged to back museums trust fundraiser
18 October 2017
Business people across South Yorkshire are being urged to back a charity fundraising dinner to help safeguard Barnsley’s heritage.
Singer-songwriter Kate Rusby, Barnsley’s own poet laureate, Ian McMillan, and Egyptologist Joann Fletcher will entertain guests at the ‘Night at the Museum’ dinner on Thursday 15 March at The Ironworks, Elsecar Heritage Centre.
The event has been organised by Barnsley Museum & Heritage Trust - a fundraising charity that helps preserve, enhance and promote the borough’s heritage for the future.
Figures from Barnsley’s history will be brought to life at the event including the De Morgan’s, William Harvey, Earl Fitzwilliam, Walter Spencer Stanhope and William Harvey. Guests can also look forward to viewing treasures from Barnsley’s collections, from Lalique glassware, to real Roman and Egyptian artefacts, alongside the original painting by Canaletto.
An auction of promises will raise additional funds for Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust to help protect the future of Barnsley’s museums.
Margot Walker, chair of trustees for Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust, said: “This is a unique celebration in the Trust’s calendar and an exciting opportunity to bring the Barnsley business community together.
“Set in the wonderful surroundings of Elsecar Heritage Centre, within the impressive Ironworks building, it’s also a chance to get up close and personal with artefacts and characters from the past.
“With the support of the business community and funds raised we can make sure that the museums and galleries fulfil their potential as inspiring places which are relevant and enrich people’s lives.”
Tickets cost £75 each or £600 for a table of ten, including entertainment, a champagne reception and three-course dinner. To reserve your place call Cath Longley on 07974 703 182 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
