Meet the team: Tracy Thornhill, administration executive

Posted by Tracy Thornhill on 5th June 2019

Tracy is our administration executive. Here she shares her experience of working at Capital B Media and her perceptions of the PR industry.

What does an average week look like for you at Capital B Media?

I oversee general admin tasks such as paying salaries, issuing and paying invoices, ordering office equipment, ensuring our health and safety policy is in check and organising training for the team. I also help our director Kate by compiling training packs for her media training and crisis communications courses. At the moment we have a lot of training bookings, so this has been taking up quite a bit of my time, but I like the fact I am contributing to the company’s client work, even though it’s only in a small way.

What do you like about working here?

I work with a fantastic team of hard-working people, which makes the job so much easier. We’re also in a wonderful location, with stunning countryside surrounding the office which you never get tired of. It’s also handy to be five minutes away from home, so I can pop back for my lunch and let Sidney out, my black Labrador.

Has anything surprised you about the job?

We have a great group of wordsmiths and videographers in the office, but none of them are very good at DIY, so when we ordered a new office cupboard, it was up to me to build it! I’m sure that wasn’t in the job description, but I’m happy to turn my hand to anything and help when needed.

What were your perceptions of PR and have they changed since working at Capital B Media?

To be honest I knew very little about the industry before working here – my background is in banking and I also have a part-time job at a veterinary surgery, so I’ve had very little exposure to PR in my working life. What I can say is that the team do a fantastic job for their clients, and in the case of the charities we work for, the impact of the work they do makes a real difference to people’s lives. I suppose that is something I wasn’t expecting when I joined – I thought PR was a nice-to-have luxury for organisations that can afford it, but actually our communications work has huge importance.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I am a keen runner and enjoy going out before the kids wake up and heading up and down the Trans Pennine Trail which is just minutes from home. I recently completed the Manchester half-marathon, which was a great achievement for me and made me realise how gruelling a full marathon must be! I’m also an animal lover – we have a rabbit named Silver in the garden alongside our dog Sidney.
